Do Good, Feel Good

To be Doing Good Deeds is Man’s Most Glorious Task - Sophocles

Agreed, Sophocles. Doing a good deed feels wonderous, and those who regularly participate in it would definitely agree. Donating to a charitable organization may be a good thing but doing it only for a tax deduction does not count. Here are some small acts of kindness that count in a big way. An added bonus is that will definitely make you feel good.

  • Find opportunities to give compliments. It costs nothing, takes no time, and could make someone’s entire day. Don’t just think it. Say it.
  • Send postcards to sick children in hospitals who are fighting serious illnesses and want to receive mail. It will take only five minutes of your time but will brighten their day.
  • Giving out cold energy drinks—or just cool water—to your mail carrier and garbage men during summer, and hot chocolate to the guards and police officers during winter is the ultimate kindness.
  • Collect stuffed animals or toys from family members, friends, and neighbors and donate them to an organization that helps children. Because every kid deserves a stuffed toy.
  • Take part in a literacy program, to help children or adults learn to read.
  • Recycle what you can. It’s really necessary to recycle these days. And avoiding using plastic is just as great.
  • Read stories to orphan children. They would love to hear people read to them. You will find ample content for children on Gellmedia.
